Teaching Methods

Classes run under theoretical and theoretical-practical modes. In lectures are presented the main concepts and technologies associated with the concepts. In practical classes some aspects are more detailed by using audiovisual technologies and practical exercises are performed in class or lab. Students participate actively in the process of formation, being asked to present their solutions to problems and works distributed. The classes are further complemented with visits to companies.

Learning Outcomes

The aim is to teach the fundamentals of the technologies for production of parts and structures by casting and welding. The students will acquire skills on the key technologies and aspects of design and production of parts using permanent and non-permanent molds. They will also acquires knowledge concerning the key technologies for fusion welding and solid state welding, the selection criteria for industrial application of these technologies, and fundamentals about the main non-destrutive control tests. The aim of this discipline is to develop instrumental skills (oral and written communication and problem solving), personal (critical thinking) as well as systemic competences (apply in practice the theoretical knowledge and development of self-criticism and self-assessment) essential to solve engineering problems in this area.
