Recommended Prerequisites

Technical Drawing; Fluid Mechanics; Thermodynamics, Complements of Thermodynamics and Fluids; Heat Transfer.

Teaching Methods

The lessons consist of presentation of thermal installations equipment and accessories; review of theoretical subjects, presentation of procedures, standards and calculation tools for sizing; presentation of graphical symbols and drawing software for thermal and air conditioning installations; tutorial classes during the projects’ development; and presentation and discussion sessions of the developed projects. In addition, specialists are invited to discuss some issues and share their engineering experiences, and field trips to thermal and air distribution installations are promoted.

Learning Outcomes

The objective of this course is to introduce the students to systems of thermal energy production and distribution (heating and cooling) and air conditioning systems. The main goal is to provide students the ability to analyse thermal and air distribution facilities, acquiring the knowledge to identify, characterize and evaluate its operation, control and safety components. It is intended that they develop calculation skills (integrating the knowledge acquired in previous disciplines) for sizing and equipment selection of small installations. It is also intended that students develop instrumental skills related to the use of numerical and graphical tools, critical thinking, collaborative work and oral communication.
