Recommended Prerequisites

A basic knowledge is required in: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Programming, Numerical and Computational Methods, Probabilities and Statistics, and also a  basic Knowledge on Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical lectures (T): oral exposition of the defined topics. Individual participation of students in the discussion is evaluated. A quiz will be performed at the end of each lecture.

Practical lectures (TP): resolution of practical problems previously defined. Individual participation in the problem resolution  is evaluated.

Evaluation Method: quizzes (5%) + final exam (95%).

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student is eligible to:

* In dimensional analysis, highlight the important variables that must be considered to solve a given problem, and reduce the complexity of a problem to a simpler form. Additionally, the student must recognize if a formula is dimensionally coherent the result foreseen;

* Calculate flow rates in a pipe network, determine the associated pressure loss, and design it;

* Determine an installation curve, select a suitable pump, and know the characteristics of its operating point;

* Know the working principle of the main Energy conversion systems like: internal combustion engines, gas turbines, steam engines and refrigeration machines

* Determine efficiencies, identify factors affecting efficiencies and optimize energy conversion and refrigeration systems.
