Recommended Prerequisites

The knowledge acquired during the previous curricular units of the Chemical Engineering Master program.

Teaching Methods

A list of topics is made available to the students between July and September with topics that are proposed by the faculty and/or industrial companies, in line with scientific research works carried out at the Research Center for the Chemical Processes and Forest Products or withing the scope of collaborative projects with industry. When the Dissertation work is developed in industral context, a co-supervisor from the company is always defined. The thesis work requires as well a scientific literature search, the lecture and study of scientific articles, under the guidande of the advisor(s).

Learning Outcomes

The objective is to develop a tecnical-scientific work, with an original contribution, in the domain of Chemical Engineering. It involves the preparation and writting of a thesis, with rigorous tecnical and scientific standards. The thesis will be subject to public final examination. The thesis's subject, content and organization will be defined under the supervison of the thesis advisor(s). The course aims at developing the following skills: Capability of information management; Capability of planification and organization; Ability to undertsand the language of experts from other fields; Ability to communicate with persons that are not experts in the field; Ability of doing research work; Ability in analysis and synthesis; Ability to formulate and solve problems; Capability of critical thinking; Capability of autonomous learning, of doing research, of oral communication and writting. Capability of inovative enterpreneurship; Capability to adapt to new situations.
