Teaching Methods

A number of theoretical classes will be lectured for the explanation of the Design of Experiments technic (D.O.E). Knowledge transfer is provided by seminars and tutorial sessions. In the seminars, theoretical concepts, case studies, real situations and practical examples are presented by the professors and invited experts. Oral presentation and discussion, supported by slides and videos, as well as other tools such as computer programs, internet pages and data bases will be the main vehicles of communication. In the tutorial sessions, students are encouraged and assisted to prepare a research project from the original idea to the project file application for funding.

Learning Outcomes

The aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary tools to plan their research work, experimental lab tests and simulation work, and to present and spread the results, since these are common tasks to any research work. It is also intended to stimulate their scientific development, their ability for innovation and their critical thinking. The PhD student will participate in conferences, discussions of papers and seminars in general, in order to become familiar with the different areas of research existing at the department, and to be able to interconnect and to integrate knowledge in a systematic way. Moreover, the student should know to prepare projects and apply for funding, and be able to make  critical analysis of scientific articles. It is also expected that the student assimilate concepts of ethics and deontology in the scientific universe.
