Technical and scientific knowledge dependent on the subject to be addressed. English proficiency required for searching the literature.

Teaching Methods

The supervisor guides the student in defining objectives and methods, and monitors the planning of the thesis. The resulting summary document is defended by the applicant in a public examination before a jury of teachers and / or researchers, experts in the field.

Learning Outcomes

According to "Regulamento de Doutoramentos da FCTUC" the purpose of this curricular unit is to produce and defend before a panel a plan for the thesis work, thus assessing its opportunity and practicability.

The Thesis Project is a written document report that must contain, among other elements, a detailed state of the art and published work related to the research theme, the problem(s) to be addressed and solved, the possible techniques and methodologies to be used for solving that (those) problem(s), an estimate of the work results and a detailed planning for the activities.
