Teaching Methods

The lectures, with the supervision of the teacher, include the search and selection of innovative laboratory and field practical activities for the teaching of Geosciences of the 3rd cycle of Basic and Secondary Education.

The practicals are planned, organized and implemented by the students, including the development of the didactic materials and preparation of the lab and field materials, instruments, protocols and field guides. All the activities are presented orally and in writing, promoting the critical analysis, creativity and concern with scientific rigour.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit aims to provide the students with the competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate practical activities, including laboratory, field and experimental work, under the syllabus of Geosciences, especially in the 3rd cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education.

The students should:

1. Understand the concepts of Geosciences in Basic and Secondary Education;

2. Know how to apply the Geosciences knowledge in carrying out practical work in the context of specific syllabuses;

3. Know how to use of the means and appropriate communication materials in the laboratory and field;

4. Have the skills to independently use the appropriate methodologies, within the framework of specific contents of observation and experimentation in Geosciences.
