Recommended Prerequisites

Geological Cartography, Structural Geology, Stratigraphy, Petrology,  Engineering Geology.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical-practical classes with presentation, selection and discussion of the study areas and working methods. Field work carried out under the supervision of the teacher. Discussion of the work being carried out and the expected outcomes in seminar-like classes of tutorial guidance.

Learning Outcomes

Students must develop scientific and technical skills in the field of thematic cartography related to physical parameters, namely involving geological, geotechnical and environmental issues. They should be able to produce, independently, cartography at different scales of subjects with a high level of specialization in the area of geosciences. In particular, lithological, geotechnical, metallogenic and in the field of environmental geology (eg, hazards related with natural and/or technological risks, use of geomechanical classifications and protection of geo-resources).

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

The program will be developed according to the area and theme to be mapped: 1. Presentation of regional geology (stratigraphic units, geological structures, climate, land use, engineering works); 2. Identification of sensitive parameters for the cartography on specific themes; 3. Importance of thematic cartography; 4. Field work, execution of in-situ and laboratoy tests, analysis and data integration for the production of thematic maps.
