16 practical classes at the Plastic Surgery Ward and the Burn Unit at CHUC.

Learning Outcomes

The aim is to provide Students with the basics Plastic Surgery scope, its historical development and the most frequent pathologies and surgical interventions, underlining its fundamental role in the field of reconstructive surgery and in the treatment of major burns and also referring to its avant-garde role in the introduction of new surgical techniques, from skin expansion, microsurgery, bioengineering to lasers, synthetic skin substitutes, etc. This knowledge may decisively contribute  to demystify  prejudiced and reducing ideas in the mass media that anachronically continue to transmit the totally wrong message that this Specialty merely correponds to cosmetic surgery

Introduction to Plastic Surgery, ethics and clinical safety; Basic concepts and techniques; Head and neck surgery; Breast reconstruction; hand and upper limb surgery; Reconstructive surgery of the lower limbs; Pressure sores; Burn treatment; Urogenital and sexual reassignment surgery; Aesthetic and body contour surgery.
