Teaching Methods

Teaching methodologies are geared towards active student participation with an emphasis on guided learning situations. In the different sessions, emphasis will be placed on the practice of the sport, allowing the student to make contact with the teaching-learning process of rowing, as well as to intervene in the role of monitor. In this way, the evaluation will include the realization of a practical evaluation circuit in the domain of the techniques covered, as well as a work that refers to the identification of technical errors and proposed exercises.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit is oriented towards mastery and learning as a practitioner and monitor in rowing sport.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: a) recognize rowing as a sport in all its disciplines and on different types of boats; b) master the use of the rowing ergometer; c) master the technical model of sculling; d) handle and modify the material according to the characteristics of the users; e) prescribe technical exercises and pedagogical progression for the technical gesture of the stroke; f) plan, organize, implement and manage indoor or water rowing sessions or activities.

Syllabus

Course contents are: disciplines of rowing; analysis of the different types of boats existing in the official rowing regulation - FISA; the technical model of the rowing stroke and the most common technical errors; the adapted rowing and its specificities according to the degree of limitation of the users; safe boat handling and transportation; the technical model and all maneuvers, including the ability to return to the boat safely in the event of a waterfall; correction methods of the technical gesture according to the technical model used, and strategies for its correction, including the correction exercises.
