Teaching Methods
The curricular unit is structured in two components: theoretical and theoretical-practical. The theoretical classes are taught in lectures by the teachers of the curricular unit. These classes also include presentations previously prepared by working groups and their discussion guided by teachers. Theoretical-practical classes bring together students around the proposed themes.
Learning Outcomes
The objectives of the course unit are the acquisition of theoretical and methodological skills in the field of architectural research. On the one hand, it is intended to deepen key concepts; and on the other hand, it focuses on research methodologies which are relevant for the thesis proposal within the scope of the Master's Dissertation in Architectural Design or in Architectural Theory.

The syllabus contents of the course are guided by lines of approach that inform the development of the Dissertation proposal, of which:
. the course of a Dissertation - research and stages of the work;
. research methods for Architectural Design and Theory;
. fields of development of a thesis proposal: abstract, objectives and relevance, literature review, structure and method.
In addition to these contents, there are also the themes proposed in class for research and group presentation:
. bibliographic references and styles;
. review for a text or a book;
. descriptions of spaces, from the room to the landscape;
. critical analysis of a MIA dissertation in Architectural Design;
. critical analysis of MIA dissertation in Architectural Theory;
. analysis of a public exam: presentation and answers.
