Elective
2nd Cycle Studies - Mestrado
Recommended Prerequisites
There are no mandatory prerequisites. It is desirable a prior knowledge of Mathematics and physics.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and practical exposure to the subject. Monitoring the development of the practical work, which consists of the construction of a structure of matches, to be tested to mechanical performance.
Learning Outcomes
Provide students with knowledge about the different structural systems in buildings and about the basic principles of structural calculation and know the main regulatory standards.
Generic skills to be acquired:
a) knowledge and ability to “feel” the functioning of the structures;
b) know the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of common structures;
c) pre-scale structural elements;
d) calculate simple structural components;
e) know and avoid common mistakes.
