Learning Outcomes
Understand the operation of the transistor in amplifier circuits. Know and apply the small-signal models in circuit analysis. Know and apply methods for frequency response analysis.
Understand the benefits and commitments of the use of feedback in electronic systems. Ability to analyze electronic circuits with feedback and calculate the gain and other parameters of interest of feedback circuits. Ability to study the stability of the feedback circuit and apply basic methods of compensation.
Understand the role of filters in electronic systems. Recognize and specify the different types of filters. Knowledge of the characteristics of Butterworth and Chebyshev filters. Knowledge of the transfer function of first and second order filters, their implementations LCR and the Antoniou circuit. Ability to design filters.

1. Transistor amplifiers.
Basic principles. Small-signal operation and models. Biasing. Discrete-circuit amplifiers. Frequency response.
2. Feedback.
Basic properties of negative feedback. The basic topologies. Determination of the gain with feedback. The stability problem. Effect of feedback on the amplifier poles. Stability study using Bode plots. Frequency compensation.
3. Filters and tuned amplifiers.
Introduction. The filter transfer function. Butterworth and Chebyshev filters. First-order and second-order transfer functions. LCR resonator and LCR filters. Active filters. Tuned amplifiers.
