Recommended Prerequisites

Students must have completed a number of disciplines totaling 60 ECTS.

Teaching Methods

(1) Teaching methods: discussion of the approach and contents in regular meetings of the students with the respective supervisors.

(2) Evaluation methods: public defense of the disssertation by a jury.

Learning Outcomes

Preparation of an original work of scientific nature, involving analysis of new situations, collection of pertinent data, development and selection or design of methodologies of approach and resolution of the problems arised by the proposed theme, the exercise of synthesis and conclusions. The skills to be developed are: Ability to manage data and convert them to information; Ability to organize and plan; Ability of analysis and synthesis; Critical reasoning ability; Ability to solve problems; Ability to understand the language of other specialists; Ability to communicate with persons that are not experts in the field; Ability to investigate; Ability to learn autonomously and oral and written communication. Each student must develop field and laboratorial work that will lead to a master thesis in geological and mining engineering that will be defended in a public exam with a specialized panel.

Syllabus

A list of topics will be available to students from July to September. Each Dissertation may have one or two supervisors. One of the supervisors has to be a DCT-FCTUC professor or researcher. The other may be from the FCTUC or external, and must be a doctorate or be an expert in the field of the theme of the dissertation and he/she must recognized as such by the Scientific Committee-DCT based on the analysis of his/her curriculum.
