Teaching Methods

The online course draws mainly on an active method of teaching and learning, providing students with relevant linguistic input and with language production opportunities, both oral and written, with corrective feedback. When presenting grammatical topics, the expository method will also be used.

Assessment is continuous and based on formative and summative activities of distinct typologies (questionnaires with immediate feedback, participation in forums and wikis, file submission).

Every thematic unit will include formative activities.

Learning Outcomes

According to the general goals set for level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), upon completing this course, students should be able to: (i) interact fluently and independently with native speakers, showing a good mastery of grammar, producing clear and detailed expository statements on a broad range of subjects, from professional to topical subjects or those of personal interest, in accordance with different text types and their communicative goals (reports, complaints, narrations, letters, summaries, etc.); (ii) express and defend opinions using arguments, presenting examples, and making relevant comments. Thus, the goal is to work on the lexical and grammatical contents necessary for fluent interactions with native speakers and for producing and understanding clear and detailed expository statements on a broad range of subjects, expressing substantiated opinions and defending points of view, both orally and in writing.
