Teaching Methods
The teaching of this class will mainly be in the form of tutorial guidance by the doctoral advisor (s) and will comprise a strong component of autonomous work. In a first phase, there will be collective teaching sessions where a discussion of the objectives and work methodologies will be made. Periodically, students will send a progress report and meeting with the counselor (s) to discuss the theme and structure of the research project. At the end of the 1st year, students should be able to make a public presentation of their thesis project
Learning Outcomes
Thesis Project is a curricular unit of the 1st year of the PhD program that aims to guide students in the identification of the research theme as well in the preparation of a proposal for a scientific project.
Students will be instructed to prepare an original, duly grounded project and to present the research methodology to be followed.
Students should gain skills in the areas of literature review, state of the art analisys in the area they intend to work in and identify the contribution that the work will have for scientific and technological advancement.
They should also be able to prepare a schedule of activities, identify the expected results and outline goals to be achieved throughout the development of the project.
