2nd Cycle Studies - Mestrado
Recommended Prerequisites
Basic knowledge recommended for the frequency of this master's degree and have carried out with success at least 8 ECTs of the curricular plan of the 1st semester.
Teaching Methods
Monitarization by the tutor will play a key role in the acquisition of skills required. The discussion of the best technological approaches and the interpretation of results will enable the student to understand the reasons for choosing a particular technical strategy and what is the correct interpretation of the results. With this knowledge, the student can propose suggestions or changes in the strategy to resolve the clinical cases and the problems.
Learning Outcomes
The primary objective of these laboratory rotations is to provide contact with the technologies used in clinic laboratory genetics. The student should:
i) learn the technologies and do the analysis of these tools used in different areas of Clinic Laboratory Genetics such as in conventional cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, cellular biology, molecular genetics, biochemical genetics etc
ii) In the context of the technologies used, analyze results and do their interpretation
iii) the development of skills for written and oral communication in the area of Clinical Laboratory Genetics
With the Laboratory rotations it is expected that student identify the laboratory and the institution where they can, develop their master's thesis or internship, find the help and collaboration that will enable them to develop a strong project and acquire solid know how.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
Full time participation during 1 week in research or diagnostic labs in clinical genetics.
At the end of the laboratory rotation, students have a week to compile the results in the form of a written report and/or make an oral presentation of a clinical case that they have accompanied.
Should be able to analyze the technologies used, discuss their strong points and weaknesses, to propose, whenever possible alternatives laboratory strategies for one of the cases they observed.
