Recommended Prerequisites

Basic knowledge recommended for the frequency of this master's degree and have carried out with success at least 8 ECTs of the curricular plan of the 2nd semester and having done successfully LR I.

Teaching Methods

Monetarization by the tutor will play a key role in the acquisition of skills required. The discussion of the best technological approaches and the interpretation of results will enable the student to understand the reasons for choosing a particular technical strategy and what is the correct interpretation of the results. With this knowledge, the student can propose suggestions or changes in the strategy to resolve the clinical cases and the problems.

Learning Outcomes

Laboratory rotations promote

i)learning of technologies and the analysis of  methods in different areas of Clinic Laboratory Genetics using a variety of tools in conventional cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, cellular biology, molecular genetics, biochemical genetics etc

ii)the analysis of results, their interpretation before a clinical framework and the need for additional studies both in the patient as well as for their relatives

iii) the development of skills for written and oral communication in the area of Clinical Laboratory Genetics

With the Laboratory rotations it is expected that student identify the laboratory and the  institution where they can, develop their master's thesis or internship, find the help and collaboration that will enable them to develop a strong project and acquire solid know how.

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

Full time participation during 1 week  in research or diagnostic labs in clinical genetics.

At the end of 1st week of the laboratory rotation, students have a week to compile the results in the form of a written report and/or make an oral presentation of a clinical case that they have accompanied. They should be able to analyze and propose the laboratory tecnologies need to solve the case, the biological mechanism behond the pathology found and wether there is any other approach to continue the laboratory study and which family membres need to be studied.
