At the end of the cycle of studies, PhD students are expected to have carried out a thorough, relevant, and innovative study of a subject within the varied subfields of Music Studies. Students will also be encouraged to build bridges with the rich tangible and intangible heritage of the University of Coimbra.
PhD students should also develop scientific autonomy by mastering tools and methodologies and, above all, having a sound knowledge of the Portuguese and international musical and musicological realities. They should also strive to develop their work in the context of the progressively multidisciplinary international research networks. The dissertation may consist of a reasoned and theoretically expounded presentation of one or a series of creative assignments offering a contribution to the evolution of knowledge in this field (Law 74/2006/annex Decree-Law 65/2018).
