General kowledge of geology.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical and practical classes with practical work (report writing). The teaching methods are based upon the Cognitive Teaching Model, oral presentation, with deductive strategies (presentation of an introductory organizing statement, progressive differentiation and an integrative synthesis), critical teaching, presentation of problems and their discussion, research work , with deductive and inductive strategies, in the Interpersonal Models of Learning - work on Research Groups.

Learning Outcomes

Objectives:To provide knowledge on: (i)legislation about geological resources in different countries; (ii)environmental impact assessment (EIA), (iii)planning, management and execution of EIA studies, (iv)environmental requalification of mining projects, (v)ISO 14000 standards, (vi)mining and sustainable development.Provide skills to identify / produce / compare:The multidisciplinary concepts related to the legislation of geological resources namely the distinction between systems that privilege the private sector and those that emphasize the public sector; The objectives of the Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) and the EIA cycle The different types of environmental impacts; The EI associated with different projects:The use of different environmental requalification techniques;Environmental Management and ISO14000 standards; Sustainability and mineral resources: the MMSD project and its proposals.
