Teaching Methods

The teaching of this unit uses the expository method, problem solving and task development. In the TP classes the students, after the presentation of the specific model, will be oriented to the possible applications in the context of what is intended to model. In the PL classes the student will apply what he has learned in order to propose a model for a specific problem.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit will provide students with information on the experimental models available in the context of human diseases, and aims to:

- defining the various types of animal models and the associated advantages and disadvantages

- discuss the various bodies and systems taking into account the available experimental models.

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

The program covers the various types of models and pathologies of organs and systems:

- types of animal models: transgenic, knock-in; knock-out; immunocompromised. Vertebrates, non-vertebrates, insects,

- models of pathologies of various organs and systems: respiratory, circulatory, locomotor, digestive, tegumentary, nervous, urinary, hormonal, sexual and sense organs.
