Teaching Methods

The teaching of this unit uses the expository method, problem solving and task development.

The student must prepare a document, following a project proposal form (such as provided by FCT) filling the various fields. Students should actively participate by sharing their experiences, asking questions in order to be able to build project proposals. Each student will present a document that will be evaluated.

Evaluation: Other (continuous evaluation) - 30%; document in the final version: 70%.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit provide students with information on how to write a competitive research project and aims to:

- developing the capacity to structure a research project in experimental pathology taking into account the principles of ethics and animal welfare

- to prepare a master's thesis proposal with innovation in the area of experimental pathology, based on appropriate methodologies, which should include the objectives, literature review, materials and methods, tasks and bibliography. For the proposal the student can follow the forms for scholarships of FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology).

- The process of investigation in experimental pathology

- Quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches in scientific research

- Systematized review of the literature, the state of the art and the possibilities of plagiarism

- Design of a research project: the choice of the supervisor, the choice of the subject

- Elements of the project proposal: Problem to be answered; Contextualization-State of Art-Review of the literature; Objectives (specific and secondary); Methods-Research Plan-Schedule; Dissemination-Publications and presentations in congresses; References.
