Teaching Methods

The teaching of this unit uses the expository method, problem solving and task development. In the PL classes the student will practice the anesthesia, the administration of drugs, the collection of body fluids and the collection of organs.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit aims to provide students with information on the pharmacological bases of therapeutics in the context of animal experimentation, with special emphasis on mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, toxicity and drug interactions.

- Introduction to pharmacology and therapeutics in the context of the experimental research: routes of administration, transport, distribution, metabolization and excretion of drugs. Absorption and elimination kinetics

- Factors that determine the duration and intensity of drug effects

- Mechanisms of action of drugs: anesthetics, analgesics, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants, hormones.

- Drug interactions

- specificities for each animal species.
