Teaching Methods

Seminar sessions occur with an active participation of the students through presentations previously prepared according to a plan collectively decided in the beginning of the term.

The students’ work should lead to the elaboration, under the supervision of a dedicated academic staff member of the Program, of a project of thesis.

Learning Outcomes

This unit is intended to help in the elaboration of students' research projects. Its goal is to deepen the skills to design and write a projet and a thesis.

Among the skills to be acquired are included the following: awareness of the process of elaboration and of the techniques of writing a projet and a thesis; practice of intertextuality by promoting reading, analysis and cross debate of the scientific texts that doctoral candidates should prepare at the end of the semester (projet thesis); exercise of oral and argumentative presentation before publics specialized in scientific work.

Syllabus

Seminar sessions focus on discussing epistemological and methodological approaches to scientific research. In the first part, the seminar is oriented to the presentation and discussion of the main strategies available for the development of a doctoral work in order to support the choices of students regarding their projects. The second part, based on the presentation of the work done by each student, focuses on a collective discussion of the stages of development of a project, especially on the construction of the analytical model. Finally, it is intended, with the presence of guests researchers in some sessions, prepare the students to develop the doctoral work, including fieldwork and writing of the thesis.
