Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge in Geographic Information Systems and Geographic Databases.

Mastery of the basics of the general theory of systems and of the principles of circulation of matter and energy on the Earth's surface.

Teaching Methods

Dynamic and interactive presentations;

Practical application to a case study (tutorial supervision in the office and in the field).

iii) Apply background knowledge to the development of a GIS Project

iv Implement, monitor and validate a GIS Project

v) Master the terminology and the general principles of modelling and environmental models;

vi) Understand the potential and limitations of the modelling process in Physical Geography;

vii) Understand the process of creating Digital Terrain Models;

viii) Apply tools of analysis and morphometric characterization of the Earth's surface;

ix) Implement dynamic models of terrestrial surface analysis;

x) Develop critical ability to interpret the results of the modelling process.

1) The Concept of GIT and its application to the studies of Physical Geography. Examples

2) The Design of a GIS Project.

2.1. The process chain for data acquisition and production.

2.2. The interoperability of data, tools, applications and services in GIT.

2.3. Applications.

3) Processes of digital modelling in Physical Geography.

3.1. Introduction to environmental modelling;

3.2. Digital Terrain Models (DTM): creation, resolution and interpolation;

3.3. Morphometric characterization of hydrographic basins;

3.4. Modelling of surface dynamics;

3.5. Digital geomorphological cartography and landscape visualization.
