3rd Cycle Studies
Recommended Prerequisites
Knowledge in the area of telecommunications networks, in particular on transmission technologies and also about technologies of packet switching networks. The student must have knowledge of programming languages.Should be proficient in the use of the English language.
Teaching Methods
During the weekly tutorial classes some audio-visual materials will be presented, with the objective to monitor and support the students’ autonomous study. Throughout the semester students will present some homework, confirming that the content of the curriculum is being understood. The seminar classes will be used help the students in the implementation of the selected relevant algorithm(s). The preparation of an oral communication about a work of synthesis will help students develop their ability to research.
Learning Outcomes
The acquisition of concepts related to network reliability and quality of service in telecommunications networks. The ability to calculate some measures of network reliability. Introduction to diverse routing algorithms. Knowledge about mechanisms for fault recovery, particularly in IP, MPLS and GMPLS networks.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
Reliability-quality of service in telecommunication networks.
Introduction to graphs (overview of some deterministic network performance measures).
Approaches for calculating network reliability
Algorithms for cut set calculation.
Algorithms for state-space Enumeration.
Reliability Bounds.
Algorithms for diverse routing.
Recovery mechanisms in IP (IP FastRetoute), MPLS (FastReroute) and GMPLS networks.
