Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology  and pharmacotherapy.

Teaching Methods

Classes of expositive nature with transmission of knowledge in the scope of treatment of clinical situations, through the use of medicines not subject to medical prescription and without recourse to medical consultation.
Resolution, in the context of the classroom, of clinical cases and application of the protocols of Pharmaceutical Indication, in the presence of a community pharmacist who is invited to the effect.

Learning Outcomes

The intervention of the pharmacist in support of the therapeutic approach, should be based on solid knowledge Pharmacology, so you can decide on the desirable and undesirable actions of medicines, ensuring a main supporting society in the establishment and enforcement of effective therapy. In this line of thought and self-medication since it is a reality that allows the patient to acquire medication that does not require a prescription, assuming responsibility itself treatment, it becomes necessary to involve the pharmaceutical this challenge. The pharmacist must have general knowledge and specific face the most frequent situations, the therapeutic resources, and management of patients, which is conditioned by their individual characteristics, disease and therapies. You must have knowledge enabling them to refer the patient to the doctor.

   1. General principles of self-medication; responsibilities and pharmaceutical functions.
   2. Guidance for pharmaceutical care. Information and communication to the patient.
   3. Patient Assessment. Therapeutic strategy. Treatment protocols.
   4. Accountability of the patient in self-medication.  

   5. Medicines most commonly used in self-medication.
   6. Medications used in major mild painful situations.
   7. Medications in mild dermatological conditions.
   8. Medicines for upper respiratory diseases.
   9. Medications for diseases of the digestive system.
10. Emergency Hormonal Contraception: analysis, evaluation and discussion of the transfer protocol.
