Recommended Prerequisites

Education of bachelor level in the areas of Architecture or Archaelogy.

Teaching Methods

Students will be guided by experts in the Study Trip through an itinerary "in the time". The observation and the direct knowledge of sites are crucial aspects to understand how architectural and urban design can do actions on them. Students are encouraged to record in a graphic diary theirs observations about archaeological sites and musealizations. These records will  consitute a personal construction that will be later incorporated in contexts of design and reflexion production.

Learning Outcomes

The objective of the Study Trip is to ensure that students have a direct contact with the archaeological sites of Pompeii and Campi Flegrei. They will examine, at first, places and their specificities, as well as the excavation and preservation activities, and the different realities and problems of individual archaeological sites. Research and field study allow to develop specific skills oriented to understand the physical and topographical context of the intervention areas, to contextualize the specific problems. The knowledge achieved during the Study Trip will be important for the future workshop and for eventual development of thesis activities.

Syllabus

The trip is articulated in several visits to the archaeological sites of Pompeii, Puzzuoli, Baia, Cuma, Miseno. Students will be introduced into specific reality of places, in order to have the opportunity to grasp important aspects for the projectual activities. The trip allows to be in touch with the various archaeological sites, with their characters and issues, with the historical events that have changed during the time the layout of places.
