Recommended Prerequisites

- Have completed the 3rd year and attending 4th year in FMUC;

- Respect the rules defined in the FMUC Pedagogical Regulation;

- Have basic computer skills;

- Apply and be selected.

Teaching Methods

1. Open introductory lecture with presentation of the objectives and methodology to be used;

2. Theoretical-practical classes with interactivity between teachers and students, visualization and debate of short videos about the various themes and real testimonies;

3. Mandatory practical internship - national volunteering in the context of vulnerable and / or  risk populations. In collaboration with NGDOs and IPSS partners. Minimum 3 periods of 2 hours;

4. Optional practical internship - international volunteer internship in CPLP countries (expenses of student responsibility).

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge and awareness about Human Rights;

2. Knowledge and awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG);

3. Identification of Health Care as a preponderant factor for development;

4. Relevance of Humanitarian Medicine in situations of catastrophe or profound underdevelopment;

5. Humanitarian medicine as a contribution to comprehensive medical training;

6. Importance of clinical semiology and a comprehensive knowledge in Medicine for action in crisis contexts;

7. Training and knowledge for medical and health intervention in areas of catastrophe, war or underdevelopment;

8. Evaluation and intervention in health in the context of humanitarian crisis;

9. Capacity-building for intervention in populations at risk through peer education and training of community health agents;

10. Knowledge and articulation with NGDOs with national and international action.

6. Tropical health - infectious diseases in the context of crisis or underdevelopment;

7. Maternal and Child Health in Developing Countries;

8. Intervention teams: roles, security and interpersonal relationships;

9. Development cooperation - testimonies;

10. Medicine of catastrophe - testimonies.
