Recommended Prerequisites

With this course it is intended to contribute a better professional development in the acquisition of specific skills in interaction with adolescents. During the frequency period , students will gain knowledge in Adolescence characteristics, hoping to contribute to the knowledge and the development of specific skills and attitudes to this age group. With this strength we want that whatever medical specialty or surgical that will eventually pursue medicine, doctors be able to help healthy adolescents stay healthy; and further, know how to treat adolescent patients. As obvious, at this stage they may consolidate some knowledge obtained in the Course of Pediatrics, but above all develop the skills in interacting with teenagers, applicable in all areas of professional practice.

Teaching Methods

The practical classes will begin from theoretical issues and expand them towards problem solving :

 - Demonstration and training of the practical application of knowledge : carrying out a clinical history between pairs of students in which is mimicked an "adolescent"  theme or problem in order to improve query performance;

 - Interaction with teenagers through observation of patients admitted to Children's Hospital.

- Start teaching technique " Flipped classroon ".

Learning Outcomes

- Carrying out a teenager-oriented medical history using specific techniques in bio-psycho-social approach of the youngster. The specificity of the completion of the teenager-oriented clinical history aims not only important issues for health as growth, development, family, nutrition and vaccination, but also sexual, psychological, educational and social components, so important in this age group.

- Pursue an ethically sound clinical practice in this age group.

- Diagnose specific situations and conditions of this age, whether acute or chronic and its earlier guidance and beneficial for the teenager.

 - Recognize and properly orient risk situations for the adolescent health, including bullying, cyberbullying, violence among peers, self-harm, the addictive behaviors and eating disorders.

- Identify and guide appropriately and timely situations beyond their competence.
