Recommended Prerequisites

The student must have basic concepts of Imagiology (to know different techniques of diagnostic imaging and their clinical indications) acquired with Imagiology course unit.

It is highly desirable that students have acquired basic notions of general anatomy, pathological anatomy and physiology.

Teaching Methods

Practical classes, with: - initial theoretical introduction; - practical component with performance of interventional radiology exams; - final discussion about the procedure suitability and its framing in the global clinical context.

Learning Outcomes

The student should:

- identify the types of intervention procedures guided by imaging methods.

- know the indications, benefits and risks of intervention radiology procedures.

- know the contraindications of the different percutaneous procedures.

- recognize the clinical situations that may benefit from radiology intervention.

- know how to choose the imaging method to guide the intervention procedure.

- identify the appropriate material available for each intervention.

- perceive the experience felt by the patient in the accomplishment of the different examinations.

- experience the complexity in performing each procedure.

- handle the materials used in interventional radiology.

- recognize the importance of multidisciplinary integration of imaging methods.

- identify for each clinical situation the alternatives to the minimally invasive procedure.
