Learning Outcomes

The main objectives of this curricular unit are:

- Develop the student skills in cartographic representation, geographic information systems and geospatial analysis;

- Select and apply techniques of Spatial Data Analysis and Geostatistics;

- Recognize and articulate GIS-based data and Remote Sensing techniques;

- Apply different modeling techniques according to geospacial phenomenological specificity, the complexity of models and uncertainty.

1-Cartographic Methods

1.Map documents, institutions, tools and mechanisms regulating the use and cartographic production;

2.The representation of space: Coordinate Systems, Projections and Datum;

3.Cartography in the Digital Era: Spatial Data Infrastructure and Metadata.

4.GIS Free software and cartographic production.

 

2-GIS and Remote Sensing

1.Geographical databases and the structure of a GIS Project;

2.Concepts and fundamentals of Remote Sensing;

3.Sensors and Remote Sensing satellites.;

4. The digital image processing of Remote Sensing.

 

3 -Spatial Data Analysis and Geostatistics

1.Geostatistics and Spatial Models;

2.Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis;

3.Testing Hypothesis and Spatial Autocorrelation;

4.Regression Models for Spatial Interpolation.

 

4 -Geossimulation

1.Modeling of dynamic systems;

2.Complexity, convergence and emergence in the context of geossimulation;
