Recommended Prerequisites

The students should have skills in the English language in order to handle all relevant bibliography.

Teaching Methods

The student conducts bibliographic research  on scientific topic under tutorial supervision. Summarizes the information and produces a written document with a Project proposal to be carried out in Year 2. On a previously determined week all students of the Master program make a public oral presentation and discussion of their projects.

Learning Outcomes

The student must perform bibliographical research and propose a Project in Applied Biology that will be carried out in the second year, under the guidance of a supervisor. The  student must synthesize critically the available information by producing a written document which will subsequently be presented/discussed publicly.

The student will develop skills in research, analysis and synthesis of scientific information as well as oral and written communication skills. The student will also develop planning skils in terms of mapping out a realistic project to carry out in Year 2.

Syllabus

1. Search of the scientific literature  and selection of information that will frame a realistic Project in the time and with the conditions available.

2. Fitting the project to the institution it will be carried out in including Research Center, Institution that provides Services (Educational, Health, Biotechnological r or Environmental-based Services), Science Museum, Natural Park, etc.

2. Selection of methodologies, models and materials to be applied in the programmed activities

3. Preparation of a written document with the rationale and stages of the Project.

4. Presentation/discussion of the project.

Bibliography

A definir de acordo com o tema. No entanto a utilização de artigos científicos publicados em jornais internacionais, ou ainda livros/guias relevantes e actuais, dentro da área será a bibliografia básica a utilizar na formação dos alunos.

Determined according to the theme. However the use of scientific articles published in national and international journals, or books/guides, relevant and current, within the study area will be the basic bibliography for use in the training of students.
