Teaching Methods

Along with the regular lectures to expose the syllabus of the curricular unit, students should actively participate in discussions, make oral presentations and moderate one working session. Videos, literary documents, and readings from various disciplinary backgrounds are subject to interpretation, accompanied by short writen texts   (400-800 words) and extended commments. They all help students to formulate the broad idea for the final essay (3,000 to 5,000 words) they are supposed to write by the end of the semester and is the main element of the assessement.     

Learning Outcomes

The study unit aims to provide training on issues related to modern urban condition and the emerging socio-economic dynamics. It is expected that the student is able to:

I. Know and articulate the main historical, political and social urban phenomenon;

II. Apply the methodological tools for the analysis of urban life;

III. critically understand the processes of democracy and governance of cities;

IV. Know and articulate the main topics and concepts of urban studies.
