Teaching Methods

Lessons with theoretical presentation and discussion of the themes, using the analysis of texts and examples of good practices, complemented by discussion of research topics presented by the students.    

Learning Outcomes

In this course unit it is intended that the students analyse and understand critically the contexts and processes of intervention in the city over time. Know and articulate the concepts and theories of heritage conservation, restoration and urban development. Understanding the impact of heritage in city planning, the diversity if practices and the rleation  between the adopted methods and the results.

1. The city as heritage:

- Policies, theories and practices.

2. Conservation, restoration, safeguard and urban transformation:

- From Monument to the Historical Urban Landscape;

- From the physical space to the socioeconomic space.

3. Current challenges:

- Actors and agents involved in the urban regeneration process;

- Participation and accountability;

- Competitiveness and Innovation;

- Sustainable development.
