Mathematical Analysis, Electric Circuits, Electromagnetics, Signals and Systems.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical-practical classes with a detailed presentation of the concepts, principles, and of the fundamental theories. In addition, several basic practical exercises will be solved to illustrate the practical interest of the subject and exemplify its application to real cases.

Learning Outcomes

It is expected that students learn the concepts and the general principles underlying the propagation of electromagnetic waves in transmission lines, in infinite size media (or considering media interfaces) and in standard waveguides, so that they are able to use them in the future in other applications involving the propagation of electromagnetic waves. In this context, students should be able to understand the physical phenomena related to wave propagation and treat the associated mathematical problems in order to find solutions that should be understandable in physical terms.

Transmission lines. Maxwell equations. Propagation of plane electromagnetic waves in media or in the presence of an interface between two materials. Wave polarization. Hollow metallic waveguides.
