Recommended Prerequisites

Attendance and knowledge acquisition transmitted in the curricular unit of Fundamentals of Circuits and Electronics. Domain of mathematical tools transmitted in the curricular units of Algebra, Mathematical Analysis I and II.

Teaching Methods

The course is based on Theoretical/Practical type classes, with the presentation and discussion of the subjects, followed by application problems solved with/by the students. The students can choose between two evaluation systems: (1) distributed evaluation, composed of four tests; (2) or evaluation based only on one exam. For both systems, all tests and exams are written evaluations.

Learning Outcomes

Learning of concepts and techniques of analysis of electrical circuits.

Consolidate the knowledge acquired in the unit of Fundamentals of Circuits and Electronics, concerning the use of basic tools of linear circuits analysis, essential for the success in other units that depend on this ability. Increase student’s capability of electrical circuits analysis and additionally increase their aptitude for projecting and dimensioning simple circuits.

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

Electrical Circuits topology and circuits analysis techniques in continuous current. Capacitance, Inductance. Natural and Step response of RL, RC and RLC circuits (serial and parallel connected), as well as other second order circuit types. Circuits analysis in sinusoidal steady-state. Powers in sinusoidal steady-state. Power Factor and Power Factor compensation. Resonant circuits analysis. Balanced and unbalanced three-phased circuits. Two-port circuits.
