Teaching Methods
The course has 2 ECTS credits (52 hours) and takes place during 8 weeks. It is taught online, supported by an e-learning platform, according to the Universidade Aberta’s Pedagogical Model. The program is organized in 5 modules covering all contents and each topic is discussed based on practical cases and SPSS exercises. All interactions happen in a virtual class environment, where learning is student-centered and structured in activities which are well-defined at the beginning of the course. A temporary license to use the SPSS software will be made available to each trainee.

Module 1 - Introduction to the e-learning platform; Research problems in Biomedicine and Life Sciences.
Module 2 - Descriptive Statistics and Data Visualization.
Module 3 - Statistical tests. Basic concepts on hypothesis testing; Parametric Tests and Non-parametric Tests for group comparisons; Association and Correlation Tests.
Module 4 - Topics in regression analysis. Basic concepts, adjustment and interpretation of coefficients of explanatory variables. Inference.
Module 5 - Introduction to Survival Analysis. Fundamental concepts in Survival Analysis. Reporting and communicating results of statistical analyses.
