Recommended Prerequisites

The candidates must be available and motivated to learn and teach their peers of the same age or younger the  competencies associated with the three main areas of intervention of this curricular unit: Introduction to the Surgical Technique, Airway Permeability and Basic Clinical Procedures. Besides knowledge and the technical preparation obtained in the previous years of the medical course, there are no other planned prerequisites.

Teaching Methods

Lectures (4T): 1h: introduction to the objectives, ground rules and information regarding the programme of the course. 3h: Pedagogical competencies: lecturing and active learning techniques on the contents of Active learning, Role_modeling and Feedback;

Simulation Practicals(20 PL): the students, in small groups, are taught in each of the technical areas, through demonstration methods, following Peyton´s 4 steps model.

Others(6O): the students demonstrate the same procedures to their peers, and their perfomance is assessed by the teachers.

Learning Outcomes

The students, in a simulation environmente sould develop competencies in diferent areas*:

1.Demonstrate knowledge, skills and atitudes needed for the appropriate development of the selected surgical techniques** and be able to show them and explin them to tehir peers;

2. Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for the appropriate development of the procedures to permeate the airway and  effective oxigenation** and be able to show and explain them to their peers;

3.Demonstrate Knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for the appropriate development of the basic seleceted clincial procedures** and be able to show and explain them to their peers;

4. Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for the performance of their roles as facilitators of learning, as role-models and agents of feedback to their peers.

*See annexed document, including the specific Learning Outcome for each area.
