Teaching Methods

These will be defined by the Researchers in whose groups the students decide to rotate, and might involve participating in lab meetings, performing practical lab work, discussions with lab members, paper discussions/presentations, etc.

Learning Outcomes

The students should integrate into different research groups (their choice), and participate in all day to day activities including experimental design, experiments, data collection, seminars, critical analysis of the results, and lab meetings. Students should be able to master the different specialized languages from each lab. Importantly, the student should be aware of the hurdles involved in scientific research, how to overcome them, and how to recognize feasible and unfeasible projects, according to both technical challenges and established deadlines.

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

The goal is to introduce students to the laboratory environment, making them aware of all day-to-day aspects of high quality research, from planning and carrying out experiments, to data collection and analysis, and including organizational and financial considerations. Students should visit several different labs and be introduced to work developed in each one. All staff will be available for the course, but each student will make their own choices in terms of labs selected, and therefore create an individual path.
