Teaching Methods
Presentation and theoretical analysis of the contents; reading and critical analysis of neolatin humanist sources through translated texts. Students are invited to actively participate in class discussions.
The seminar will function in continuous assessment. The final evaluation takes into account the following:
a) oral and written assignments in e-learning sessions;
b) participation in discussions and presentations in classroom sessions;
c) final written paper, carried out under the teacher’s guidence.
Learning Outcomes
Since the University of Coimbra is a UNESCO World Heritage it calls for the rediscovery of a rich cultural heritage associated to the College of Arts, to the authors and to the works that designed the University of Coimbra in the world.
This seminar aims to present the phenomenon of literary and intellectual Humanism which opened the modern era at a fundamental period of consolidation of European culture. The HR seminar aims to identify neo-Latin humanistic cultural production, as well as the key players and patrons, responsible for the first major meeting of cultures that made the four continents one space.

3. Jesuit colleges and the teaching of Humanism in Portugal, Europe and the New World. The role of the Royal College of Arts of the University of Coimbra in the world;
4. The first global school network: The Ratio Studiorum, a new international style of education;
5. Humanism’s major activity: Its literary and intellectual production
6. The cosmopolitanism of Portuguese Humanism. The Portuguese discoveries in the neo-Latin sources.
