Recommended Prerequisites

The PhD student should display that she/he is able to manage and produce a critical review of the literature that in the framework of art theory, art history and artistic culture in general (cinema, architecture, design, theater, dance) has been producing knowledge and methodologies of analysis that have migrated to the field of artistic practices whether in the context of its production or of its reception.

Written and spoken Knowledge of English is recommended

Teaching Methods

The nature of the curricular unit presupposes that the teaching-learning dynamic values:

1. Oral presentation of the contents of the program using audiovisual materials and concrete models for the collection and processing of information, whether bibliographical, digital, iconographic, resulting from institutional archives or specific authors, or resulting from direct testimony;

2. Practical work where primary methodologies of analysis will be explored.

Learning Outcomes

1. Acquisition of practices that exploit the speculative dimension of artistic creation processes.
2. Development of methods of mediation of artistic practices in the context of a doctoral thesis.
3. Acquisition of a critical attitude towards research.

Syllabus

Art  based Research Methodologies II will develop a pedagogical framework focused in:

1. Thematic sessions that will address scholar and art based approaches to the questioning of contemporary art: the expanded field, transmedia and post-studio art practices: performance, body in art, contemporary dance, The "site-specific" and the space as a contemporary artistic interface, photography and video, moving image, traditional art practices positioned between specificity and technical relativism, gender issues, postcolonial discourse, feminism, institutional critique, to queer art.

2. The construction of a speculative space with a practical and experimental nature: the mapping of the creative process and its aporias. The understanding of the dynamics that the artistic practice can bring to the writing of the thesis.

3. The post-Duchampian artistic culture as the genesis of a valid and independent reflection of art through action and within action.
