Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge in Cell Biology and Molecular Biology at advanced level provided by the course unit Cell Regulation.

Teaching Methods

Tutorial teaching: the student is guided throughout the laboratory work and data analysis by members of the research team.

Learning Outcomes

Laboratory rotations provide:

i) the development of technical and analytical (quantitative, statistics, computer) skills in several areas of Life Sciences and Biomedicine using cell and molecular biology tools;

ii) the opportunity to get acquainted with scientific questions, research groups and potential supervisors for the thesis/traineeship project;

iii) training of written and oral communication in science and technology.

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

Students join research groups, for 4 weeks full-time, and participate in ongoing research projects or technical work in laboratories from research centers, clinical analysis laboratories or biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

 Laboratories in the following areas are available to host laboratory rotations:

Cell Biology

Molecular Biology

Structural Biology

Neurosciences

Electrophysiology

Animal Behaviour

Imaging

Molecular Oncobiology

Molecular Biotechnology

Proteomics

Gene Therapy

Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cells

Cytogenetics

Molecular and Clinical Genetics

Immunobiology

Forensics Medicine

Microbiology

 At the end of the laboratory rotation, the students present the results in a written report and/or at an oral presentation, and propose experimental approaches to continue the work or solve any problem that they may have encountered during the work.
