Teaching Methods

Theoretical classes used for the presentation of specific concepts and techniques in sound design.

Practical lab classes will be used for training the application of sound design and audio techniques in a concrete interactive media or intervention project.

Learning Outcomes

The student will gain an understanding of the concepts and techniques involved in sound design for interactive media and installation environments. The student will understand the dynamics and properties of diverse acustic contexts, their communicative potential and limitations of the acustic ecology of diverse media contexts, and the form how sound design can be used to transform perception of space, place and interactive media. There is the added goal of offering basic knowledge of audio equipment and software for recording, editing and audio control.

2. The study of natural and humanized soundscapes

3. Physical, psychoacustical and cognitive perspectives of sound.

4. The role of sound in modifying perception, experiential and communicative functions

5. Soundscape analysis techniques and the notion of acustic ecology

6. Guidelines and sound design patterns in interactive media

7. The practice of audio elements creation in soundscape composition

8. Tools and techniques.
