Teaching Methods

The theoretical concepts presented in the classes are followed by the execution of practical exercises that require the transformation of coordinates, the use of total stations, levels and GNSS receivers and associated software. The students make several mandatory projects along the semester. The evaluation is made through a written exam (50%) and the practical projects (50%).

Learning Outcomes

At this curricular unit concepts of geometric geodesy are addressed, namely the terrestrial reference systems, transformation between different coordinates within the same reference system and between different reference systems, as well as the errors associated to the transformations.

Classical positioning methodologies using total stations and levels are studied, as well as the 3D positioning using the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).
