The enrollment in the course is subject to approval by the Coordination of the Doctoral Program
Teaching Methods
Three complementary activities will be carried out:
1 - Thematic seminars (2h/week): to introduce to current topics in the thematic area.
2 - Cross seminars (1h/week): for all students of the doctoral plan; to provide a broad overview of the research field.
3 – Elaboration, presentation and discussion of a survey paper.
Components 1 and 2 are presented by teachers and researchers of CISUC or visitors; minimum attendance to these seminars: 75%.
Evaluation:
- Survey paper: 80%
- Individual report on cross seminars and participation in their discussions: 20%
Learning Outcomes
- To obtain an overview of the thematic area, including fundamental concepts, main methodologies and main research challenges.
- To acquire a broad view of the research domain of the doctoral program
- To improve competences of critical analysis of scientific works, synthesis, scientific writing, verbal and writen communication, critical reasoning, autonomous learning, research and group integration.

Other topics may also be the subject of analysis and discussion within the Software and Internet Services area, depending on their interest to achieve the objectives of the course.
The course will also cover advanced topics of the field of Systems and Information Technology, covering current research relevant to allow the acquisition of a broad view of the research domain of the doctoral program.
