Compulsory
1st Cycle Studies
Recommended Prerequisites
Basic knowledge (1st cycle level) is required in: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Programming, Numerical and Computational Methods, Probabilities and Statistics, Thermodynamics.
Teaching Methods
Theoretical lectures (T): oral discussion on previously defined topics. Individual participation in the discussion is evaluated. One test at the end of each lecture.
Practical lectures (TP): Students are divided in groups to do team work to present a practical problem discussion and resolution. Individual participation in the discussion is evaluated.
Learning Outcomes
The main objective of this unit is to provide students with solid and autonomous knowledge on fluids’ behavior, to be used in practical engineering applications. It is divided into nine chapters, including basic concepts that are then applied to practical engineering problems. Fluid behavior is viewed as a particular case of transport phenomena (mass, momentum, energy) that may be encountered along the student’s professional life.
