Teaching Methods

The objective of the Mechanics of Solids and Structures is the study of basic concepts used not only to other courses in the following years of the graduation but also for the future that have to design structural elements. For this reason the presence of students in class seems essential once the continuous monitoring of the matter helps its understanding, a fundamental condition to profit the knowledge obtained in the course. Thus, all students who do not have the status of student workers must be presents in the classes.

Learning Outcomes

The Mechanics of Solids and Structures studies the behaviour of structural elements attending to their conditions of use and charge. As objectives this course can be defined as the discipline that essentially verifies the stability of structural elements, if the external stresses and the materials used in its construction are known, analyzing the states of stress and strain to which these elements are subject.

The program is structured so that students can get an idea of how to size a simple structural elements such as bars, beams or shafts.
