Teaching Methods

Theoretical classes aiming at presenting field work methodologies and the geology of the areas to map. Practical classes focused on the improvement of the work with compass and maps and the ability to recognize different geological units. Field classes with autonomous mapping.

Learning Outcomes

To develop and improve the knowledges of field geology, in particular as regards the mapping. The student should be able to position itself on maps, identify geological units and structures that can be mapped and carry out mapping autonomously in new geological settings, obtaining a final thematic map and other related elements.

Acquiring skills in field work, including analysis and synthesis of data with geological significance, representation and adequate transmission of information, autonomous understanding of new situations, practical application of theoretical knowledge.

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

Development of field work activities in small groups using techniques of positioning and measurement of geological data. Description of the geological and structural characteristics of outcropping units in selected areas and conducting geological mapping for detailed scale.

Assessment Methods

Assessment
Report on mapping and field geology: 50.0%
Field work: 50.0%
