Practical studies II – Canoeing, Sports Option I - Canoeing and those to be in the 2nd curricular year

Teaching Methods

The assessment may be performed by frequency or exam

a) Frequency

-Required a minimum of 75% attendance on classes

- Written mid-term test (60 minutes).

- Practical mid-term test.

- Perform a dossier with reports of the training sessions of the training canoeing centre.

-In none of the assessment moments the student may have less than 7.5/20, being the final average higher than 9.5/20 for approval

 

b) Assessment by exam:

-Written exam, which includes theoretical and practical (100%). The minimum score required is 9.5/20.

Learning Outcomes

- Manage paddling in flatwater competition kayaks;

- Know the fundamental aspects related to paddling technique;

- Know how to transmit technical aspects of the paddling technique;

- Master the pedagogical progression of the teaching-learning process in canoeing;

- Learn to adapt the training to different performance level groups;

- Know the training methods in canoeing;

- Be able to guide the process of training of an athlete or team;

- Master the aspects related to the evaluation and control of training;

- Be able to organize, lead and animate canoeing’ activities safely.

Syllabus

- Methodology of training in canoeing. Developing speed, strength and resistance,

- General aspects of theory and methodology of training. Specificities of canoeing.

- Monitoring and evaluation of training in canoeing: general concepts, lab vs field, biochemical markers, competition and pre-competition.

- Developing younger athletes. Determinant aspects of success in canoeing. Process of selecting beginners and teaching technique.

- Competition tactics.

- The coach’ job.

- Training recovery.

- Major injuries associated with competitive practice canoeing: analysis on the different disciplines of canoeing.
